Path 03
First 30 days
Onboarding, payroll & tax basics, work-tied life tasks, and a 30-day done checklist.
Who this path is for
You’ve joined (or are about to join) a Beijing employer. Permits may still be in flight. You need a calm order of operations for HR, pay, and registration — not a lifestyle guide.
The journey (narrative)
Days 0–3: Orient and capture owners
Meet HR and your manager. Save the work WeChat groups that matter. Ask one clear question: who owns your work-permit / residence timeline? Write down names and expected dates.
Next: keep Work Permit & Residence open beside HR’s checklist.
Days 1–7: Money and identity for payroll
Confirm how you get paid and whether you need a local bank account. Bring passport and whatever address proof the bank asks for.
Next: Banking & Payments.
Same week: Where you sleep must be registered
If you’re in a hotel, ask the front desk. If you’re in an apartment, plan the police-station visit with landlord or agent — don’t wait until someone asks for the registration slip.
Next: Temporary Residence Registration · Renting & the Police Station.
Weeks 2–4: Probation reality check
Clarify working hours, leave, expense rules, and who approves time off. Keep copies of contracts, offer, and every government receipt. If a document is stuck, escalate early with facts (what’s missing, since when, who’s waiting).
“30-day done” checklist
- You know your HR owner for permits
- Salary path is clear (account + payday)
- Temporary residence registration is current
- Work-permit / residence next step has a date or clear blocker
- Emergency contacts (HR + manager) saved
When the list is green, you’re operational — even if some cards are still printing.
